Social Work

Family Support

UCP Delrey School’s social work department offers counseling to students and families as well as helps families locate special needs equipment resources and other community services. Social workers play a major role in successfully transitioning students once Delrey has met their needs.

Case management is available to all students in the school program.

Advocacy support is offered through referrals to professional organizations in the community. Learn more about advocacy.

Transitioning to Community Schools

Social workers assist in coordinating a student’s transition back to community school, working to make each student’s transition as smooth as possible. Social workers are available to consult with parents, staff and administrators during this transition period. To assist in the final transition, Delrey’s team of social workers develop “A Transition Book,” describing the student’s strengths and needs. This book is provided to the student’s new classroom teacher in his or her community school to help the teacher get a snapshot of how to instruct this student in a manner that would facilitate joining the other students in the class.

Transition to Community Programs

The social work department is available to assist parents of students who will be exiting the Delrey School and help them explore the special needs programs and resources in the community. The Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration has funded numerous community services for individuals 21 years old and over who no longer receive services through the Maryland State Department of Education.
