Welcome to Delrey Doings, a monthly newsletter for families of our UCP Delrey School students. Delrey Doings reports school calendar updates and reminders, event news, fundraising initiatives, news from our Parent Student Organization (PSO) and other information to help you increase your involvement in school activities. Ms. Bridget's Class:

Ms. B’s Class Hits the Lanes!

On Friday, December 2, Ms. B’s class took a break from all the hard work of school and took off for Westview Lanes in Catonsville. Once there, we participated in one of the great Baltimore activities…Duckpin Bowling! The staff of Westview Lanes was more than accommodating. They provided us with four lanes, instead of the two we paid for! This allowed the students to spend more time bowling and less time waiting. With the help of bowling ramps and lane bumpers, pins were flying all over the place. We took a break for lunch (bowling alley pizza and fries are the BEST!), then finished up with more bowling. An exhausted group of students and staff headed back to Delrey on a high note.

However, this trip was about more than just having fun. Accompanied by Ms. Bonnie and Ms. Mary, the students worked on their PT and OT goals. Madison, Will, Ryan, and Trent all spent a lot of time standing and walking. Michael and Cierra added up the scores on their calculators. It was great to see the students applying their skills outside the Delrey classroom.

Fundraising Committee:

The Fund Raising Committee thanks you for your support of our fund raising activities. Following is a list of fund raisers for the 2011/12 School Year:

Mayfair: This year's Mayfair will take place on May 12, 2012 and will not include the Stroll N Roll. The Stroll N Roll will be replaced with a different competition that will occur during the school week prior to the Mayfair. Students will earn points and the winner will be announced at the Mayfair.

Ledos Pizza Night: Every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, Ledos will donate 10% of sales (eat in and carry out) to Delrey. Please remember to tell them that you are from Delrey so that we will receive credit for the order.

Look for additional information regarding fundraisers as the time gets closer to the event and we lock in the dates.

Ongoing Fundraisers:

Giant A+ Bonus Program: Every time you use your Giant Bonus Card, our school will earn A+ Bonus Bucks, which converts into cash each month. However, you must designate Delrey School to receive the credit for your purchases. Designations may be made online at www.giantfood.com/aplus or at your local Giant store. To make the designation online, under "Join the Program," select register your card. Click on "Continue to Listing." Under the "Express Option," type our school number (01569). Click on "Register" then "Confirm my Information."

Campbells's Labels and General Mills Box-Tops: Please continue to send in your box tops. The Box Tops For Education can be found on various products including Kleenex brand tissues (the coupon is at the bottom of the box). Please check all products that you use to see if they have a Box Top For Education coupon, clip it and bring it to Delrey. The school receives cash for the box tops and all of the money is used to purchase items for classroom use. Thank you for your support.

Nursing Department:

Medical Identification ID’s

Do you or your child have an allergy to food or medication, a significant medical condition such as asthma, seizure disorder, diabetes or other medical conditions? What about a sting allergy, an implanted medical device, or an inability to relay personal identification information? If you answered yes to any of the above, you may want to consider purchasing some type of medical identification. According to My Medical Alert ID, “More than 95% of first responders look for a medical alert ID bracelet during emergencies.” This type of identification allows essential medical information to be conveyed in the event of an emergency. The identification jewelry comes in a variety of jeweled, Velcro sports band, silicone and metal styles. They also offer bracelets, lockets, charms, necklaces and tags (for a shoe, necklace, or bag)! Some companies offer USB flash drive and software components to access personal health information.

For your convenience, we have some of the internet sites that contain medical identification. While we do not endorse any particular product line, we do support the wearing of such identification.
